Donations to the German Bone Marrow Donor Registry

Blood performs many different tasks. For example, it fights infections, cleans wounds and transports oxygen – making it vital for human life. However, every 16 minutes, someone in the United Kingdom receives the devastating diagnosis of blood cancer, which means that normal blood formation is disrupted by the uncontrolled proliferation of malignant blood cells. The cancer cells prevent the blood from performing its functions. A stem cell donation is often the last or even the only chance for blood cancer patients to defeat the disease.

Since 1991, the German Bone Marrow Donor Centre (DKMS) has been working to find suitable stem cell donors for patients worldwide. Although more than four million donors have already registered with the DKMS, unfortunately one in five blood cancer patients in Germany alone still cannot find a suitable donor.

To support DKMS in its fight against blood cancer and in its search for stem cell donors, the Josef Mühlbauer Foundation donated €10,000 to the organisation.
