Flood Disaster Mozambique
In March 2019, the tropical cyclone Idai caused severe damage in Mozambique, a country in south-east Africa and one of the poorest in the world. Beira, Mozambique's second largest city, was particularly hard hit. Huge amounts of water led to severe flooding, houses were destroyed and many people lost their lives. The German-Mozambican Society then approached the Josef Mühlbauer Foundation and asked for help. The Faculty of Health Sciences at the Catholic University of Mozambique, which is supported by the association, was almost completely destroyed.
The Josef Mühlbauer Foundation pledged financial support in the amount of EUR 62,000.00.
The donations collected by the association were to be used to secure measures for the provision of food, medicine and drinking water. In addition, the destroyed health centre will be renovated and the necessary medical equipment, which was also destroyed, will be replaced.
