Our History

Entrepreneurial success always brings with it social responsibility. Josef Mühlbauer always viewed his economic activities as a social obligation towards his fellow human beings. Since founding the company of the same name in 1981, he has supported various social, charitable and humanitarian projects. As the company grew, so did his social commitment. While initially focusing primarily on projects in the East Bavaria region, over time the entrepreneur began to support more and more supra-regional and international projects.

Josef Mühlbauer was particularly influenced by his business trips to Africa: he was deeply moved by the great suffering of many African people, some of whom have to live in catastrophic conditions. As a result, humanitarian projects for the world's poorest continent increasingly became the focus of his social commitment.

In order to make this commitment even more efficient, Josef Mühlbauer established the Josef Mühlbauer Foundation on 22 November 2005. The aim of the foundation is to provide assistance where it is urgently needed. The foundation supports regional projects and institutions as well as international ones. Whether it is a school in Bavaria or a hospital in Africa, the Josef Mühlbauer Foundation ensures that people who are particularly dependent on the help of others receive support quickly and without bureaucracy. However, in addition to supporting these projects, another major concern of the Josef Mühlbauer Foundation is to motivate people to become active and help themselves. The best example of this is the Mühlbauer charity runs: since 2005, the Mühlbauer Group has been organising a large charity run once a year to ‘help while running’. Every penny raised – whether through entry fees, donations or sponsorship – goes to the foundation and thus also to social and humanitarian projects. And with great success: what began as an internal company run has now become one of the largest sporting events in Eastern Bavaria, with over 2,000 participants.

Since its inception, the Josef Mühlbauer Foundation has provided nearly one million euros to social and humanitarian organisations, helping where the need is greatest.
